Well, my WNBA season came to a close today. The SanAntonio Silver Stars will be playing someone for the WNBA championship. The Silver won't be playing because they are the better team. They will play because the WNBA has the worst referees in any league that I have ever watched. It is sad when a team loses because they make too many mistakes, or because they just didn't have "it" that day. It is a crime when a team loses because the refs want to influence the outcome of a game. Today, the refs called 24 personal fouls against the Sparks while only calling 14 against the Silver Stars. While the refs were so busy calling fouls on the Sparks, Becky Hammond, and Ann Wauters were busy having their way. Becky pushed off all night and Wauters went as far as to grab Parker's jersey and attempting to pull her backwards out of a play. No calls were forthcoming. I strongly dislike any group of people who do not know how to do their jobs, and the WNBA refs need to go back to school and learn how to do their jobs.
The refs in any game are there to protect the players and the integrity of the game. They are not there to influence the outcome of the game and this is exactly what the refs did today. They put their big hand print all over this win for the Silver Stars and that is unacceptable.
My season comes to an end and this bad taste in my mouth will last until the WNBA does something to address the quality of the referees calling the games in this league. These athletes on every team deserve better.
