Lady Vols stomp the Georgia Dawgs!!

If you watched the whole game between Georgia you might have felt a chill in the air as Andy Landers briefly shook hands with Coach Summitt following the match-up.  They have never been close, but it seems that maybe Landers is getting tired of the Lady Vols laying the smack-down on his Lady Bulldogs.  Just a few stats from the game to highlight just how dominating the Lady Vols really were tonight.
Points in the paint-GA 12,UT 42. Points off turnovers-GA 4,UT 9.
  • 2nd chance points-GA 6,UT 20. Fast break points-GA 2,UT 12.
  • Bench points-GA 9,UT 17. Score tied-1 time. Lead changed-1 time.
  • Last FG-GA 2nd-00:56, UT 2nd-00:18.
  • Largest lead-GA by 2 1st-19:09, UT by 31 2nd-02:25
Yes the final score was 80-51 in favor of our Lady Vols and some of the flash of earlier LV's teams was evident in the win.  The behind the back pass from Kinna Strickland to Glory Johnson was a thing of beauty. This is the 32 win over the Georgia Dawgs in 41 meetings.  No wonder there was a chill in the air.  Pat, Holly, Dean, and Micki coached a great win and the ladies responded by executing the plays.
Ariel is a blessing to the team.  A true point guard, may be the key to Summitt's ninth national championship, but there is still a lot of ball to play.  I feel good about Tennessee's chances to sweep the SEC again this season and win the tournament.  If everyone gets healthy we will be a team to be reckoned with come March.
Next up is Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 central time.  I hope being back in her home state will boost Kinna's confidence and give her some lift in her step.  She has been a little off her game the last 2 outings, but I think that she is just plain tired.  With Taber on the bench, it has required more time on the floor from Kinna.  She can't be expected to play 30-40 minutes every game without some negative side affects.  Hopefully, the next two days off will give her legs a rest.
Props to Glory Johnson who finished the game with her 4th consecutive double double.  She has 29 in her career at TN and in the next game she should pass 1000 rebounds.  Elite Company; Glory Johnson needs four rebounds to reach the 1,000 career boards plateau, making her the fourth in school history to tally 1,000 pts. and 1,000 reb.  In the 1,000/1,000 club already are Chamique Holdsclaw, Sheila Frost and Tamika Catchings.
After Arkansas the Lady Vols will travel to Kentucky where they will play Thurs., Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. ET.
