Get ready Lady Vols fans another new era begins. Well, actually, we could call it a repeat. Micki DeMoss rejoins Pat Summitt on the sidelines next season after a seven year absence. Coach DeMoss went to Kentucky for a few years then she decided to give up her head coaching career. Not long after that she went to work for The University of Texas as an assistant coach.
According to the post by Debbie Jennings, on the Lady Vols web site, DeMoss replaces Tennessee staffer Stephanie Glance who became the head coach at Illinois State University on April 20, 2010.
"I guess Mickie had the `seven-year itch'," joked Summitt. "Seriously, we are thrilled to have Mickie back in the Lady Vol program. She is tied in to so much of our championship success throughout the years. She is a tremendous recruiter, teacher of the game and a great bench coach as well.
"While she was away, she had a chance to be a successful head coach at Kentucky and also to serve on the staff at the University of Texas. Mickie's forte has always been recruiting and working with the post players. Her resume is so much richer now as a result of her experiences over the past seven years.
"She is excited about coming back and helping us to continue to compete for championships," said Summitt.
For those of you who don't know anything about Coach DeMoss let me just say without DeMoss we would never have gotten "The Three Meeks" and probably not the six national championships we earned during her tenure as our recruiting coordinator. Welcome home Coach. It will be good to see you on the sidelines in the correct shade of ORANGE!!!!
