Oh Ladies, it was an incredible ride. A ride that so many "experts" never expected, took the No. 16/15 Tennessee Lady Vol softball team (49-15) almost all the way to the "ship." This glorious ride ended just one victory short of a berth in the Women's College World Series best-of-three title round
Our Ladies in Orange dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to No. 3 Arizona on Sunday night at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. By going 2-2 during the WCWS, the Big Orange finished its season tied for third on NCAA Division I softball's grandest stage and have never finished lower than third at any of the program's four WCWS appearances (2005, 2006, 2007, 2010).
"Freshman left fielder Raven Chavanne (2-for-4, double, run scored, steal) and junior center fielder Kelly Grieve (2-for-4) each posted two of Tennessee's six total hits in the contest. Freshman Lauren Gibson was 1-for-1 at the dish with two walks, an RBI and a run scored, while senior catcher Tiffany Huff was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI."
While Freshman standout Ivy Renfroe fell a little short of her goal to win a National Championship with her teammates, she gained a wealth of experience to draw upon over the next three years. You are all champions in my book, but Ivy grew into a world class pitcher right before our eyes during this tournament. Another great Freshman pitcher, Cat Hosfield also gained needed experience and did a fine job for the Orange Nation.
With 10, count them, 10 Freshmen on this roster you can bet we will be back. This team has a great future in front of it, but I am so proud of what you have already accomplished.
